Levi Leipheimer tried to escape on the last climb, but the peloton, led by Discovery and Phonak, chased him down on the descent. The riders hit over 45 mph on the closing sprint. Hincapie also took the green sprinters jersey. Levi Leipheimer took the King of the Mountain jersey by sprinting away to crest the day's biggest climb. Thomas Peterson holds the Best Young Rider jersey, and Nick Reistad received the Adobe Most Aggressive Rider jersey for the stage. However, Floyd Landis' Phonak team successfully defended the golden jersey, and the standings remain the same. That sets up Stage 6 as the last real chance for any contenders to make their move.
