July 18 - Landis Climbs Back Into YellowAmgen Tour of California winner Floyd Landis reclaimed the yellow leader's jersey today during stage 15 of the Tour de France. The Phonak captain took fourth on a mountainous stage in the Alps that finished at the summit of the legendary L'Alpe d'Huez. He now holds a ten-second lead over Oscar Pereiro of the Caisse d'Espargne - Illes Balears team. Landis and Phonak have been criticized since they let Pereiro get away in a break last Saturday that allowed the Spaniard to make up an almost 29-minute deficit to take over the TDF lead. However, Phonak wanted to rest the team for the three brutal mountain stages in the Alps and were confident that Landis would again shine in the mountains where they knew the race would be won or lost. Landis took another big step forward today towards winning his first Tour de France. With two more tough stages in the Alps ahead (Wednesday and Thursday) and a crucial time trial on Saturday, look for Landis to attempt to put more time on the other overall contenders and keep his yellow jersey the rest of the way to Paris, where the race will finish on Sunday.
