Career Summary

The powerful Norwegian national champion Thor Hushovd comes to California ready to dazzle the crows with his explosive finishes. One of the sport's top sprinters, in 2006, he won the first and last stages of the 2006 Tour de France and a stage and the overall points classification at the Tour of Spain. He survived a deep gash to his right arm caused by a spectator's PMU hand during a Tour de France sprint finish.

Hushovd began racing at 10 and won nearly every race he entered up until he was 16 (he is unofficially a 13-time Norwegian champion). At the age of 19, he considered “retiring” from the sport. Then in 1998, he hit the Under 23 racing circuit and won Paris-Roubaix, Paris-Tours and the World Time Trial Championships. In 1999, he signed a contract with Credit Agricole and continues to win against the most experienced pros.
