Career Summary
Italian star Ivan Basso joins the Discovery Channel Team after a controversial season that included his implication in “Operación Puerto”. Basso has since been cleared by the Italian Cycling Federation and will lead his new team to many victories in 2007.In 2006, Basso won both the Giro d'Italia and the Criterium International, races he also won in 2003. He has won multiple stages in the Giro d'Italia and won the Tour of Denmark and the Tour d'Emilie. He has challenged Lance Armstrong during the Tour de France finishing 2nd in 2005 and 3rd in 2004.
Basso was a strong cyclist from the start and won the Under 23 World Championships in 1998. In 2002, he won Tour de France best young rider jersey and three years later, in 2005, finished 2nd overall.
