| Founded in 1998, the German Team Gerolsteiner has played a solid role on the international cycling stage for several years with stage wins in all three Grand Tours. The 2006 Giro d'Italia brought out the best in Gerolsteiner talents Stefan Schumacher (GER) and Robert Förster (GER). Young Schumacher won two stages and wore the pink jersey for three days and sprinter Förster won the final stage in Milan. Schumacher finished his incredible season ranked 10th in the overall UCI ProTour standings. Another young German cyclist, Markus Fothen (GER), kept Gerolsteiner in Tour de France news for the 13 days he wore the white Best Young Rider jersey. Led by team manager Christian Wegmann this German team comes to California ready to better their 9th place finish last year in the inaugural Amgen Tour of California.
