San Luis Obispo
Route Information 02.21.08 | Stage 4 End City Web Site Spectator Tips Local Amtrak Station 1011 Railroad Avenue On California's fabled Highway 1, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, lies a town whose name spells tranquility. Steep, velvety-green hills shelter the coastal city, which year-round basks in a perfect Mediterranean marine climate of balmy days and cool nights. The streets of downtown are lined with shops and restaurants tucked into turn-of-the-20th-century mercantile buildings, and its neighborhoods are chock-a-block with classic California bungalows. A gleaming white Spanish mission rises in the center of it all, above a sparkling creek. South of town, gently rolling vineyards give way to the beach and the sea. This is San Luis Obispo, and it's no wonder the people here call it SLO. "The City of San Luis Obispo is a bicycle-oriented community; therefore, the Amgen Tour of California is a perfect fit for us. By every measure, the Tour activities in San Luis Obispo this past February were a grand success. The City is delighted to host the Amgen Tour of California once again.." -Mayor Dave Romero |
