Interesting Facts

Cavendish, voted “Rookie of the year” 2007 by Cycling Weekly, started at a young age as a BMXer and then grew into a track cyclist. He moved on to become a professional road racing cyclist in 2007 and quickly became a prominent sprinter. He achieved a highly successful debut season, equaling Alessandro Petacchi's record of eleven wins in a first pro season.

He is known for his strong anti-drug stance, as he was one of the first two riders to sign the UCI's new anti-doping charter, introduced just before the 2007 Tour de France. Cavendish also spends time training in Tuscany, Italy.
