The City of Livermore, which is a growing city in the east of the San Francisco Bay Area, is considered the gateway to both the Central Valley and the Tri-Valley. Livermore is a top destination for wine tastings, weddings, camping, and a multitude of events and activities. Check out our more than 80 miles of trails to ride your bike leisurely through beautiful vineyards or over challenging hills. The Lake Del Valle Recreation Area offers a great place to kayak, sailboard, or fish. Experience the challenging and exciting hikes and walks at one of the many regional and local parks surrounding our City.
Founded in 1869, Livermore is home to California's oldest wine region with over 50 wineries offering an exceptional array of events, concerts and tastings throughout the year. Visit Livermore on May 5 and 6 for the Annual Wine Country Festival and enjoy award winning wines, delectable food, local microbrews and live entertainment. Come see why Livermore's downtown received the National Great American Main Street Award in 2009. Visit Livermore's downtown and enjoy shopping, dining, spa services, and live music at one of our fun nightspots. You can also catch an indie flick at our retro 40's theater or see the latest blockbuster films our state-of-the-art all digital 13-screen movie theater. Our performing arts venue, the Bankhead Theater, offers a wide range of events for all tastes – jazz, classical, opera, dramas, and comedies.
Whether it is cycling on some of our eighty miles of trails, tasting wine at one of our award winning wineries, shopping and dining in our vibrant downtown, or enjoying an event at our performing arts center, Livermore offers something for everyone.
The Amgen Tour is America's premier cycling event. With Livermore's rolling hills and beautiful vineyards, this is the closest thing that you can get to the Tour de France experience on this side of the Atlantic. This year, we are thrilled to have been selected as the Stage 3 Finish. I encourage everyone to come to Livermore to see road cycling at its best, to shop in our award-winning downtown and experience California's original wine region. What they say is true, "There is more in Livermore."
