2011 Highlights
AboutThe Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team roster is made up of 30 athletes from 10 different countries. The average age on the team is 27. Team headquarters are located in Wevelgem, Belgium. With over 300 victories at every latitude in official UCI calendar races, the team has written some of the most significant pages in the history of international cycling in the last decade. Over the years the team’s prestige has grown exponentially—so much so that the team is universally recognized as the Ruler of the Classics. In fact, since 2003 the team has conquered no less than 16 “monumental classics.” Add to these three road world titles, three time trial world championships, two World Cups and an Olympics and you’ve got a team to be reckoned with. In 2012 the team has been reinforced both in management and on the roster, focusing on aspects like team work, technology and research of young talents. The team’s stars include time trial World Champion Tony Martin, King of the cobblestone classics Tom Boonen, French champion Sylvain Chavanel, Peter Velits and last but not least, the record man for victories in the Amgen Tour of California, Levi Leipheimer. The Amgen Tour of California will once again be one of Leipheimer’s major goals. The race will start off from Santa Rosa, his native town. This is further motivation for Levi, a long lasting champion at 38 who will try to clinch his 4th Amgen Tour of California after consecutive successes from 2007 to 2009 and honourable placements in the last two editions (3rd in 2010 and 2nd in 2011). Leipheimer also holds the record for stage successes: six.
