AboutCannondale takes over as the title sponsor Italy's perennially top-ranked team. In recent years, the squad has dominated America's top races including last year's Amgen Tour of California. Headlined by young superstar Peter Sagan, 23, and two-time Tour of Italy winner Ivan Basso for the past couple seasons, the team has a strong balance of sprinters, one-day riders, and young all arounders. Nicknamed "The Terminator", the Slovakian Sagan won a record five stages of last year's Amgen Tour of California and went on to win three stages while capturing the sprint points jersey at the 2012 Tour de France. While Sagan is fast, teammate Elia Viviani may be faster. The team boasts arguably the fastest sprinters from six countries, yet, remain with rising stage racers like Moreno Moser. Expect Cannondale to front American Ted King, 3rd place overall at the 2011 U.S. Professional Championships. |
