2009 Highlights
About Spidertech Powered by Planet EnergyLast year, Team SpiderTech Powered by Planet Energy demonstrated to the world's best that they know how to win big bike races. Canada's only UCI continental team was built with lofty goals in mind: to become the nation's first ProTour team, to be the first Canadian team to compete in the Tour de France and to place a Canadian on the final podium of the Tour de France. The core unit of Canadian riders, with an average age of just 24 years, returned to the team from last season, including Keven Lacombe, Francois Parisien, Ryan Roth, national champions éric Boily and Charly Vives, and Martin Gilbert, a previous winner of the U.S. Criterium Championship. Gilbert stunned the peloton during last year's Tour of Missouri when he rocketed past some of the world's swiftest sprinters to win the coveted closing stage. Among the riders joining the team this year are American Lucas Euser, who moved from ProTour's Garmin-Slipstream, and Canadian champions Guillaume Boivin and Stéphane Cossette. Based in Canada's Niagara region, Team SpiderTech Powered by Planet Energy is sponsored by SpiderTech, a pioneer in precut, ready to apply taping solutions that foster pain relief, promote healing and recovery, and provide support, and Planet Energy, a provider of environmentally-conscious energy options. The team, comprised of Canadian Olympians and national champions on the road and track is under the direction of Steve Bauer, Canada's most successful cyclist who wore the leader's yellow jersey at the Tour de France for 14 days during his career, along with placing second at Paris-Roubaix and winning a silver medal in the Olympic road race. Making their debut at the Amgen Tour of California, expect Team SpiderTech Powered by Planet Energy to ride with great passion and enthusiasm, often being the protagonists in breaks. Should the stage come down to a sprint, this promising team of tomorrow has already proven themselves to be among the fastest sprinters in the world. Team Roster
