Livermore

Livermore

The City of Livermore is the gateway to the greater SF East Bay and to the Central Valley of California. Livermore is a top destination for experiencing true wine country, technology and science development, luxury weddings, and a multitude of events and activities. With over 80 miles of trails for leisurely rides passing beautiful vineyards and through more challenging hillside landscapes, Livermore offers a taste of Europe without a passport. The Lake Del Valle Recreation Area offers a great place for outdoor recreation. And the challenging hikes and exciting walks through one of our many regional and local parks can lead to chance encounters with wildlife and serene vistas.

Founded in 1869, Livermore is home to California's oldest continuous wine region with over 50 wineries offering an exceptional array of events, concerts and tastings throughout the year. Leading up to the Amgen Tour of California, come visit Livermore's downtown on May 4th and 5th for the 2013 Annual Wine Country Festival and enjoy award winning wines, delectable food, local microbrews and live entertainment. Due to extensive revitalization efforts and creation of many new public spaces, fountains, sidewalk dining, and stores, Livermore's downtown received the National Great American Main Street Award in 2009. You can experience shopping, dining, spa services, and live music all year long, including live performing arts at the Bankhead Theater, which offers a wide range of events for all tastes – jazz, classical, opera, dramas, and comedies. And when you think you can't do anymore, you can finish your trip to Livermore with a visit to the Paragon Outlets' 120 stores of luxury shopping at unbeatable discounts.

Whether it is cycling and outdoor activities, wine tasting at one of our award winning wineries, shopping and dining in our vibrant downtown, experiencing premier luxury shopping at Paragon Outlets, or enjoying an event at our performing arts center, Livermore offers something for everyone.

The Amgen Tour of California is truly America's premier cycling event. Because of our unique geographic location, we believe strongly that Livermore's rolling hills and beautiful vineyards are the closest thing that you can get to the Tour de France experience in North America. We are thrilled to once again be a Host City and as a Start for Stage 7, you will be treated to a double king-of-the-mountain experience and an incredible race. I encourage everyone to come to Livermore to see road cycling at its best, while enjoying our healthy-lifestyle festival, incredible downtown boutique and luxury outlet shopping, and dining in our award-winning downtown cafes and restaurants. Come experience California's original wine region at its best. What they say is true, "There is more in Livermore."

LIVERMORE / STAGE 7 Start, May 18
  • Winemaking in the Livermore Valley Wine Country dates back to the 1760s when Spanish missionaries planted the area’s first grapes. Today it’s home to nearly 50 wineries.
  • Livermore combines small-town charms with wine country beauty—and did we mention it’s less than an hour east of San Francisco?
  • Enjoy a meal at the Restaurant at Wente Vineyards. Dine on sustainable, organically grown ingredients. Wash dinner down with Wente wines.
  • For an exceptional day on the links, take a swing at The Course at Wente Vineyards. The challenging 18-hole, par-72 championship course, aims to be one of the premier golf destinations in Northern California and is a regular stop on the PGA circuit. Not to mention the course is beautiful – the wine-country backdrop climbing the surrounding hills gives the course a secluded feel.
  • Take a swing at Poppy Ridge Golf Course. The 27-hole course is set against the rolling and rugged countryside of the Livermore Valley.
