Stage 5: Leipheimer confirms yellow with a crushing performance

Stage 5 Results | Video | Press Release Astana's Levi Leipheimer won the crucial 15-mile Solvang time trial Friday to solidify his lead in the 2008 Amgen Tour of California.

Slipstream Chipotle's David Millar was second on the day, 29 seconds behind and his teammate Christian Vande Velde was third.

Millar and Vande Velde moved up the overall standings to second and third.

CSC's Fabian Cancellara was fifth, behind teammate Gustav Larsson and 1.05 behind Leipheimer. The world time trial champion had started the day in second, just 13 seconds behind Leipheimer, and was hoping to take over the leader's jersey that he had earned in last Sunday's prologue.

Leipheimer took a narrow lead thanks to a breakaway lunched on the slopes of the Sierra Road climb on stage 3.
