Ride 2 Recovery to Partner Once Again with Amgen Tour of California in 2014 Gold Series Honor Ride Cycling Events to Raise Funds and Awareness for Injured Veterans
Calabasas, CA, September 26, 2013 – Ride 2 Recovery, in partnership with AEG and theAmgen Tour of California (ATOC), announce the 2014 Amgen Tour of California Gold Series Honor Rides, four non-competitive cycling events to help raise funds and awareness for Ride 2 Recovery and injured veterans.
"Ride 2 Recovery is honored to once again partner with AEG, the Amgen Tour of California and our mutual partners to bring these fun and inspiring cycling events to California communities in 2014," said John Wordin, founder and president of Ride 2 Recovery. "Cycling participants can ride along some of the official Amgen Tour of California routes while supporting America's healing heroes," added Wordin.
The ATOC Gold Series Honor Ride events provide local cyclists with the opportunity to ride parts of many of the Amgen Tour of California professional cycling courses and ride alongside healing heroes on a non-competitive, fun ride. The rides will cover distances from 20 miles to 75 miles, and each event will honor local fallen heroes.
"The Amgen Tour of California Gold Series Honor Ride is an inspiring way to get active, stay fit and make a difference in our communities, around the state and country," said Kristin Bachochin, executive director of the Amgen Tour of California and senior vice president of AEG Sports. "Using the international platform of the Amgen Tour of California to support our military's healing heroes, while promoting a healthy lifestyle, perfectly aligns with our mission, and we look forward to supporting each event."
While the ATOC Gold Series Honor Ride host cities are still being finalized, events will be held throughout the state, with an emphasis on cities that will host an actual Amgen Tour of California Stage during the 2014 event or those that are close in proximity. Events will take place in both Northern and Southern California.
The Partnership also extends to some of Ride 2 Recovery's other events, including the 2013 Honor Ride Las Vegas, and the 2014 California Challenge, a multi-day event for active duty military and injured veterans, riding alongside the general public, that covers 450 miles from Northern California to the Santa Monica Pier and pushes participants to their limit, both physically and mentally.
Also new for 2014 will be the Pro Cyclist Mentor Program, featuring riding tips, training sessions, and motivational guidance for regional injured veterans participating in Ride 2 Recovery cycling programs. Professional cyclists will work with injured veterans and local cycling enthusiasts to help encourage rider confidence and build basic training skills.
"Cycling is an activity that just about anyone can do," said Linda Glassel, National Honor Ride Director. "The Amgen Tour of California Gold Series Honor Ride is a fun, non-competitive ride that brings communities together to make a difference - to raise funds and awareness for our healing heroes and to provide another means of rehabilitation for them through the wonderful sport of cycling. The Partnership with the Amgen Tour of California helps to build awareness for Ride 2 Recovery and establish programs that are great for both brands," added Glassel.
Ride 2 Recovery's mission is to improve the health and wellness of healing heroes through mental and physical rehabilitation programs that feature cycling as the core activity. The funds raised through the ATOC Gold Series Honor Rides will support outdoor cycling programs and Spinning Recovery Labs at Military and VA locations around the country, as well as local rides for healing heroes. Participation is open to all ages, including veterans and the general public.
America's largest cycling race, the Amgen Tour of California is a prominent event on the international professional cycling calendar and holds a 2.HC ranking, the highest classification for non-World Tour events.
Each year, the Amgen Tour of California draws global attention as one of the most anticipated cycling events of the year - one that attracts Olympic medalists, World Champions and top Tour de France competitors.
