AEG and Life Time Fitness partner to promote the Amgen Tour of California and its amateur cycling racesLOS ANGELES (February 16, 2011) - AEG, presenter of the Amgen Tour of California professional cycling race, and Life Time Fitness, Inc. (NYSE: LTM), The Healthy Way of Life Company, have partnered to promote the Amgen Tour of California and its amateur cycling events being held in association with the race.
Starting this year, Life Time will become a partner of the Amgen Tour of California and will collaborate to create a mass participation cycling event each year during the opening weekend of the Amgen Tour of California. In 2011, Life Time will collaborate with Lake Tahoe, the Stage 1 Host City for the 2011 race, to create a compelling cycling experience for amateur cyclists on May 14, the day before the official start of the Amgen Tour of California, which runs May 15 - 22. This event will provide an opportunity for recreational cyclists to ride the 72 miles around Lake Tahoe, which boast some of the country's best cycling terrain.
AEG also will partner with Life Time to promote L'Etape du California, Amgen Tour of California's mass participation cycling event that allows amateur cyclists the opportunity to test their mettle by riding Stage 7 of the Amgen Tour of California. Quite possibly one of the most difficult stages in the history of bicycle racing in the U.S., Stage 7 has been compared to the epic stages of the European Grand Tours. Life Time will provide opportunities for members of Life Time Cycle Clubs around the nation to receive preferred entry into L'Etape du California, which takes place on May 7.
Life Time Cycle members will also receive preferred access to participate in the amateur time trial held on May 20 in Solvang, Calif., before Stage 6 of the Amgen Tour of California, as part of a VIP package for the final weekend of the race. Life Time Cycle will use the amateur time trial to provide serious recreational cyclists a challenging early season training goal.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with Life Time, a company that is dedicated to helping people achieve healthier and more active lives," said Andrew Messick, president, AEG Sports. "We look forward to working with them to cross-promote our professional and amateur events so we can continue to help foster enthusiasm for the great sport of cycling in the U.S."
Through this partnership, Life Time will promote the Amgen Tour of California and its participation events using Life Time's institutional in-club marketing and promotion assets.
"We are excited to work with AEG to grow cycling in the U.S. and to provide unique opportunities to cycle enthusiasts to test themselves," said Ken Cooper, vice president of endurance, Life Time Fitness.
