LOS ANGELES (March 22, 2018) - Venice Beach, California resident Simone Drucker's design has been selected as the winner of the 2018 Amgen Tour of California T-Shirt Design Contest benefitting Amgen's Breakaway from Cancer® four independent, non-profit partners, announced Kristin Klein, Amgen Tour of California president and executive vice president of AEG Sports.
Drucker's winning design was used to create the iconic Amgen Tour of California T-shirt which is on sale now (https://amgentourofcaliforniastore.com/collections/breakaway-cancer-t-shirts) with proceeds benefiting Amgen's Breakaway from Cancer® independent non-profit partners.
Each year, race owners AEG sponsor a contest to select artwork for a special edition official t-shirt to raise funds for Amgen's Breakaway from Cancer® independent non-profit partners. The contest was seeking an Amgen Tour of California inspired design that features the 2018 race host cities, as well as a California theme. Drucker's design was chosen from a large pool of submissions and determined by the following criteria: creativity (50 percent), incorporation of the 2018 race host cities (25 percent), and California theme (25 percent).
Drucker's winning artwork highlights nature and the many ecosystems one can find in California from forests to valleys, mountains, the sea and the desert. She says, "What I love most about my home states is not just the incredible nature, but also how many different ecosystems you can find here. I realized that I wanted to represent this in my concept, to really celebfrate what makes California such a special place, and the perfect setting for world class cycling."
Drucker who is a professional designer and artist, cycles recreationally and heard about the contest from her boyfriend who is a huge cycling fanatic. They have been anticipating this year's Amgen Tour of California and she decided to sketch ideas until she was felt inspired and created the winning design. Her design marries her love for her home state and cycling showcasing the word LOVE and highlighting palm trees, the ocean, forest, sunshine, the desert and mountains, along with a cyclist and a listing of this year's host cities.
Driven to enter the contest not only because of her love for her home state, but also because of the connection to Amgen's Breakaway from Cancer®, Drucker is looking forward to attending the race and explains her motivation, "I have a lot of love for my home state as do most people who come here, so the message is fitting, but what is also important to me is to reference the mission behind this and the cause that it benefits: helping fight cancer. It's about supporting those who need it, the power of many individuals participating in small actions that amount to a greater whole in this ongoing effort for improving peoples' lives."
The prize package Drucker will receive includes an all-expense paid trip to attend one stage of the 2018 Amgen Tour of California, including round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations and VIP Hospitality passes and $1,000.00.
The 2018 Amgen Tour of California will cover 645 miles of roadways, highways and coastlines during seven stages from Long Beach to Sacramento May 13 - 19. The race is an invitation-only event that regularly attracts the top teams in the world, including some of the sport's best cyclists: Tour de France competitors, National and World Champions and Olympic medalists.
