LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (Sept. 10, 2014) – While the peloton won’t begin the 2015 Amgen Tour of California for nearly eight months, preparation for the milestone 10th anniversary of America’s greatest cycling race is already in full swing. The eight-day stage race is scheduled for May 10-17, 2015.
Today during Interbike, the largest bicycle industry trade show in North America, race organizers AEG announced a variety of thematic elements, promotions and other surprises scheduled for the race’s 10th anniversary edition. Among the special promotions already being produced are commemorative videos featuring the race’s ’10 Most Memorable Moments’ and a sweepstakes series leading up to the first day of racing in the golden state. In celebration of a decade of historic cycling competition, a special 10th anniversary Amgen Tour of California logo was also unveiled at the show.
To celebrate and pay tribute to the 10th edition of the Amgen Tour of California, fans will be able to view soon-to-be-released specially created videos on the 10th of each month leading into the race that highlight ten historic Amgen Tour of California “moments.” Along with these highlights from past races, videos are also being produced for a series titled “My First Bike,” in which current and legendary cyclists, fans and other notable figures reflect on their first experiences on a bicycle.
The Amgen Tour of California will kick off the 10th Anniversary Sweepstakes Series, which begins September 10 and runs through June 2015. During this time, fans will have the opportunity to win a variety of cycling memorabilia and gear on the 10th date of every month, starting with a SRAM Groupset. During Interbike, AEG also announced that SRAM, the global leader in bicycle component innovation, is extending and expanding its partnership beginning with the upcoming 2015 edition of the Amgen Tour of California. AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA EXTENDS PARTNERSHIP WITH RIDE 2 RECOVERY
Also announced today during Interbike, Ride 2 Recovery, the California-based organization created to benefit mental and physical rehabilitation programs for our country’s wounded veterans and healing heroes that feature cycling as the core activity, will once again partner with AEG and the Amgen Tour of California to produce “Amgen Tour of California Honor Ride Gold Series” events in California as part of their 2015 schedule. In 2014, Honor Rides were held in Sacramento, San Jose and Thousand Oaks in conjunction with the Amgen Tour of California.
